We have student led conferences on Thursday evening and Friday morning - just a reminder that these are student led, there will be many families in the room at the same time and you are welcome to come anytime, you are not restricted to your scheduled time.
Our Scholastic book fair is on - it will be open for purchases during the conference times. As a reminder it closes at 8pm on Thursday and noon on Friday. We welcomed our new student teacher this week, Ms. Sheikh, she will be with us until the end of April. We will not have a computation quiz this week - students will be sharing their strategies at conferences. The first day back to school after the break is Monday April 1! Tomorrow we have the Dress Rehearsal for the Spring Concert in the afternoon (Div 1 & II choirs and the xylophone club)

This week our quiz will have: 1 adding decimals 2 subtracting decimals 3 long division 9 multiplication questions (2 digit by 1 digit & 2 digit by 2 digit) We are so happy that the temperatures seem to be improving!
Students brought home their Electricity tests yesterday for a signature. This week we are welcoming Ms. Hunter who will be working in our room in the Mornings. A letter went home yesterday. We will have our computation quiz tomorrow. Our quiz will be on multiplication (double digit by double digit) and division (basic facts and 3 long division questions) In math today we started to examine equivalent fractions and how we can use multiplication to make equivalent fractions - we will continue this tomorrow and look at how we make equivalent fractions using division. We have started to use our Heritage questions to start building our personal narratives. Students will be sharing these at student led conferences. We started coding today! You will be able to see what the kids are learning this week during our Student Led Conference which are March 21/22. Due to our coding schedule we will not be having our last dance class tomorrow. It is unfortunate but it was the only way to fit everyone in this week. Students should dress for the weather each day - we monitor the temp throughout the day and as it warms up we will have active living time outside! Wednesday is Pink shirt day - please see attached letter. I have moved the science test from Wednesday to Thursday. Science study pages are due Thursday and the test will be Thursday morning. No school Friday!
Today was Fun Lunch - Subway!! Tax Receipts were sent home today. Students are bringing home their computation quiz from this week. They should be reviewing their errors and corrections with you. Next week I will include one long division questions - students should be reviewing this over the weekend. - information is in their math books. Science test - students have had class time to work on their study page, these need to be finished over the weekend and are due on Wednesday - our science test on electricity is Wednesday! Reminders: Tomorrow is Fun Lunch for those who ordered it. We have our Science test on Electricity next Wednesday - Feb 27. Students are busy making their study pages and will bring them home this weekend to study from. Some students need to return their Heritage questions - they were due Feb 13. We will be working with these next week. Coding starts next week! We had our French Carnival Activity day today.

Our Celebration of Learning is on Thursday night at 6:30 - students will be sharing their knowledge of electricity. We look forward to seeing you there! Due to the cold weather, the French week activity day has been moved to Monday afternoon! Heritage questions due Feb 13. Coding starts Feb 25. Olympic Heights will be having another Family Movie Night - a form went home yesterday about this. Movie night is Feb 28! We have our Celebration of Learning on Thursday at 6:30 - students will be sharing their math & Science work around measurement and electricity!
We will have our weekly computation quiz on Wednesday - we will continue to practice basic division and multiplication of 1, 2 and 3 digit numbers. Heritage writing - students are going to be asking questions to learn more about their own family heritage. Please answer the questions as best you can. Students are asked to have everything returned by Wednesday Feb 13, we will be using the information to write personal narratives after the long weekend. Report cards went home today!
We spent some time looking at Area and Perimeter today. We also practiced multiplying 2 digit by 2 digit numbers. Reminders: - Tomorrow is a no school day! - Grade 5 celebration of learning is on Thursday February 7 @ 6:30 - Next week is French week! We will be celebrating by having an activity day on Friday Feb 8. - coding starts on Feb 25. |
